To all of my followers and friends online.

It is interesting to watch my ‘stats’ on social networks. When my subject is a type of history, certain people come on and ‘like’ it. When the subject is food, certain people show up. When I talk about the Lord, certain people show up or those interested ask questions. When I go fishing or shopping, or I get something interesting and new, certain people show up and ‘like’ it. I guess what I am really saying is that I totally appreciate you all and it’s awesome to ‘converse’ with you somehow on a somewhat daily basis through Facebook and other platforms, and some personally on my phone via email, text or calling. God bless you all and have a successful day. ~ Essie

Mother's Day 2018 ~

If you would turn to 2nd Timothy chapter 1. We’re going to be focusing on one verse this morning, verse number 5, and I want to talk to you for just a few minutes this morning about ''A Mother's Influence.''

ILLUS: Abraham Lincoln said, ''No one is poor who had a godly mother.'' He went on to say, ''I remember my mother's prayers, and they have followed me; they have clung to me all my life. All that I am and hope to be I owe to my angel mother.''

A mother's influence.
We're here this morning to celebrate Mother's Day. And by the way, if you haven't called Mom yet, here’s a bit of encouragement - call your mom. And all the mom's said? Amen.

We're here to celebrate the day that has been set aside, as President Woodrow Wilson said on May 9, 1914 when congress declared the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. President Wilson said that this day has been set aside as a time for ''public expression of our love and reverence for the mother's of our country.''  It is a holiday dedicated to peace.

With all that our mother's do for us while we're growing up and even after we leave our residences and go off on our trail of life, they deserve at least one day out of the year to be honored and to have gifts and calls and cards sent to them.

Have you ever thought about all of the roles that your mother filled while you were growing up? I just jotted down a few - and this list is by no means exhaustive. Nurse, counselor, spiritual advisor, educator, nutritionist, accountant, transportation center, maid, peacemaker, entertainer. There are so many other roles that our mothers fulfill each and every day.

And so, today, on Mother's Day, we want to say “thank you” to all of our mothers for all that you do for us with your undying love. You show peace when deep inside you may sometimes be feeling a war going on. But you keep it to yourself just to keep the peace. Love pours out of your soul like hot gold being poured in a vat.

In 2 Timothy 1, here we have a well-known Apostle, Apostle Paul, writing to a young, new preacher on things that are needed for the church to grow in grace and the very first subject is on … Mothers. He addresses Pastor Timothy in the first 4 verses, and then on his Maternal Influences with sincerity. He speaks of Pastor Timothy’s Grandmother AND his Mother’s Faith. This popular Apostle (not without persecution of course,) actually “called-out” Lois and Eunice and told Pastor Timothy that he is persuaded that he too has a meek and gentle heart like his Maternal side. Now note, he is not going too far like some religions do today and make the Women gods, so-to-speak, so let’s be careful of doing that. There is only one Creator with 3 characters, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Paul is only commending them of their faithfulness to the Kingdom. We have to watch who we place on pedastals. He is not telling people to bow down, pray to and worship these women. Let’s not get it twisted. Even Jesus corrected a Mary-izer in:

Luke 11:27-28
27  And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.
28  But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us not forget who the Creator of Mother’s is. Let’s give God all the props and thank Him for the Mother’s amen?! In fact a female was the first to announce the resurrection of our Savior. They just ‘knew better.’ lol. The men were hiding in fear! But that’s another story.

The very first recommendation that Paul gives about the women in Timothy’s life was about Faith. People remember you when you show yourself faithful. If you want to be used as an example, have and show faith in God. Show faith in the work of the Cross that Jesus Christ did for us all. So many people ‘talk’ God but they don’t ‘show’ God in their lives yet they expect for others to come to the foot of the Cross. If you preach Jesus and don’t show it in your private life or you chase every skirt, (and vice versa,) you can find, (and now-a-day, that could be male or female,) who is going to come to the foot of the Cross and believe and serve Jesus? God likes things done decently and in order and that is out of order. He will not move on chaos. You are in God’s way by walking down the crooked path that He intends to end soon and get it out of His face! I am totally sure that God is not enjoying the fact that some people will go to Hell. I know that He will be relieved to get that out of the way so that the strong and sometimes weary, but believing Children can enjoy Heaven and get this party started!
And to the disobedient: how can you be a great example for the Kingdom of Heaven and you can’t even take correction from your parents? Who is going to follow and believe in a person who disrespects authority with no repentance? To the ladies out there, judge a man’s heart according to the way he treats his mother. If he respects her, whether she is good or bad, he will most likely respect you. If he dogs his mother out, he just may have a problems with authority or problems with females. I’ve known some who are misogynists because deep inside they have unforgiveness of some sort for their mothers. Now, some have done their mothers wrongly, I know that I have. At some point in life, we probably all have disappointed our moms in some way, but I know when a mistake has been made and I have sense enough and gratefulness enough to repent and I believe that the Lord has forgiven me. We have to be careful of who we judge.  Which of us can judge who has been forgiven and who hasn’t? Ask for forgiveness and let go and let God. Someone can be holding a grudge against another who has asked the Lord to forgive them years ago. And here, the accuser sits with sickness and death upon them and bad health because they could not forgive someone that God forgave years ago! If He forgave them, can’t we? What makes us so high and mighty to not forgive someone else. Here’s something for you that I’ve noticed lately that many believers are forgetting. I’ve seen some, horribly ‘call out’ others on social media, and so forth, and it doesn’t make others look bad, it makes them look bad. The only ones to follow them are those who are just like them. You will know them by their fruit and I am not talking about numbers here.

Matthew 18:15-17 does NOT include “sneak-dissing.”

Matthew 18:15-17
15  Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16  But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
17  And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Matthew 18:10
10  Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 18:21-35
21  Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
22  Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
23  Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.
24  And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.
25  But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26  The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
27  Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28  But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29  And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
30  And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
31  So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.
32  Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
33  Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34  And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35  So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

🌹To all of you moms out there, God bless you. The mothers who worked hard and sacrificed for your children. The mothers who can't have children but raised them regardless. The mothers who lost their children due to seen or unseen circumstances. God bless you. Mental moms, physical moms, emotional moms, financial moms, and Godly moms. Bless you. The mothers who were mothers who cannot say that they were publicly...God bless you. The mothers of our cities and towns who helped raise the children of other moms who just needed a little elderly wisdom...God bless you.

Father in Heaven, touch all Mothers with your Loving Touch and make us all whole, happy and free. Bless those living, those in the past, and those in the future. Cover us. Amen. ~Essie

Having church in a laundrymat is awesome!

Last night my daughter and I had a Godly encounter in a local laundrymat. The man was a tall, thin man with a sweet character and the lady showed signs of being addicted to some type of drug but she was very friendly. We all spoke to one another kindly and she immediately added us to their conversation by telling us how funny the man was when he talked. I asked the man if he had change for a ten dollar bill. He slowly counted out one's for me. He had ten ones and a ten dollar bill himself. As he gave me the ten ones, the lady kept saying, "Give me the ten! Where's MY ten?" It was obvious why they had met. My daughter and I began to wash clothes, and the people continued to talk. They told us their names, and we told them ours. When they heard that I was a Reverend, they began to repent of their ways and apologize. I told them that I was not Jesus but a fellow human like them and what they did was between themselves and God. I let God do the heavy work, I just stayed in my place.
The lady stated how she needs to go back to church again. God showed me that He has some type of talent that He has given her and she needs to use it in church. She told me that she liked miming and she began to do the moves. Alexi smiled as the lady mimed and we laughed and enjoyed her performance. (She wasn't too shabby really.) She told me that there was a song that she used to mime to, about the Lord being a 'fence.' I knew exactly what she meant and I started to sing, "Jesus, be a fence all around me everyday." She said, "Yes!!!!" and continued to mime. We had church. We had church in the laundrymat. The conversation began to get good. She began to tell me that she suffers from Depression and is on 4 drugs for it and she sometimes feels as though she lives in a "Bubble" as they call it. The man told us that he has buried so many friends lately that he was tired and missed his own best friends funeral. He shrugged his shoulders. The man was just plain ol' tired he said "spiritually and emotionally."
I asked if I could pray for them and they said, "Yes please." I began to pray to our Father above and asked Him to forgive them and start them all over, (I heard the man ask while I was praying so I followed his lead.) I asked God to lead them to straight paths and cover them with Angelic Protection. (At this point, the lady began to cry silently.) When I was done, they hugged me twice and thanked me. After it was over, they parted. The man went up the street and the lady got on the "55" bus and was gone.
I told them that I would add them to our prayer list. Please pray for T and L? God knows their names. Especially after last night. My daughter and I drove home, in the dark, staring silently at the night lights, feeling great. God is good. Even in laundry-mats.

Learn when to say no

As an orphan from the time I was 3 months old until my second mother died life has been strange. I bounced around like a rubber ball from home to home looking for love yet never finding it. I must say though that God sent a beautiful woman into my life named Hazel Marie Carroll but even she left me when I was 8 years old due to leukemia. After that life really became a trip. That’s when the bouncing began. House to house, child to child, friend to friend, town to town, School to school, church to church. And just when I thought that I found a good friend, someone who was just just like me, they turned out to be double faced and quite mean. I was always the byword, the joke.
I just wanted someone to love me. There were handsome guys that wanted to take me to the prom in 12th grade but their parents wouldn’t allow them to take me because I was “the street kid.” Therefore the lady that I lived with at the time made me go to the prom with the local garbage man. He was about 20 years older than I and the whole thing was a joke. To this day there is a family that didn’t like me that kept my prom pictures. And every now and then they would drag them out on holidays to show them to people so that they could laugh at me. This happened in my life which is a very very long story… until age hit me. Now that I’m older and I see the mistakes that I made, the people that I tried to please that didn’t deserve my attention, and the people that I put on pedestals that really should have been underneath my feet, I now see that God is the one that I should spend all of my energies on. I was always there to do things for people. I was always the one to run to the store for everybody’s mother. In my circle of friends I was the only driver. When my car’s broke down I had no friends. No one came to see me on holidays because no one could drive. Up to this day my right knee is almost blown from driving all these years. I’m so glad for the grace of God that keeps me walking everyday when the devil meant for my harm. If we are not careful we will continue to say yes when God intends for us to say no. All my life between the way that I was being treated in all of the homes and being in the Marine Corps at the age of 21, I always kept my eyes down like an old slave, I always said yes ma’am yes sir, or no ma’am and no sir. I was always the one that people could depend on to get things done and it is not because I was good, it was because I felt that I should do these things for people. We have to be very very careful that we don’t fall into the Trap of being needed. To end this I want to tell someone out there to stop it. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Enjoy your life, be nice, but learn to say no it is your right, and you do not have to please everybody. Just make sure you please God. Have a good day.

Paypal is a mess!

PayPal is a mess!

I have been using PayPal for years. I never had a problem. This past weekend someone donated to my Ministry and I attempted to swipe their card into my PayPal account with Paypals sister company, PayPal here. The swiper didn’t work therefore I keyed in the numbers of the person’s MasterCard that they had given me. I found out Monday morning that only a portion of the donation went through because they have something called “Reserve” which I didn’t know about earlier. When you key in someone’s number they put a portion of that money into a reserve that you don’t actually receive until 31 days later. Now my question is, did the triangle swiper actually not read the MasterCard? Or is it a setup so that when you key in someone’s number PayPal gets to keep a portion of your money for 31 days so that they themselves can circulate money just like Banks do?
By the way I called them Monday morning and they released my money through what they call a one-time Courtesy.
